Fireworks CS5 PNG issue

I LOVE Fireworks. It is a great program, with an easy to use, fast interface, and tons of great features. Photoshop is awesome for photo and print editing, but Fireworks is the best image editing program for web stuff (interface design, icon design, etc).
At work I use an iMac with OSX 10.6. I’ve noticed that Fireworks CS5 won’t save PNGs correctly sometimes. There are issues when trying to save with transparency, and there is a huge issue in that a lot of times Fireworks will only save the file as a PNG 32, no matter what PNG format you choose. This is extremely frustrating, and I’ve tried restarting Fireworks, restarting my computer, and nothing helps. I don’t see this issue raised anywhere online, so I’m writing a quick post about it to see if anyone else is having issues saving PNGs in Fireworks CS5. Let me know!

After just a few months on Mac, I encountered the same problem as well. But in my case I can’t make Fireworks to save a file as other PNG than PNG 8. Which means no transparency for me.
No idea what happened. I know it’s been some time since you posted this, so did you find any solution? Or does this happen regularly to you? Thanks!
Sorry andrea, I haven’t found a solution. I am on projects that are requiring PSDs at the moment, so I haven’t followed up with it. I also saw that adobe launched CS 5.5 and I wonder if that has solved the issue.
I just encountered that same problem with my Fireworks. It has become a permanent thing for me and it’s driving me crazy! have you found a solution yet?
haha. Well I am not a photoshop zombie, so I’ll stick with the faster, better rendering, better compressing, better interface, Fireworks. They should pay me to say such things.
I got around this issue by using Photoshop. KABOOOM!!
