KidZONE logo design
15 Jan
The KidZONE logo was needed for the children’s ministry at NorthView Church. The leaders sketched out exactly what the logo should look like as far as form, so the design came down to choosing fonts and colors. This logo needed to represent fun and youthfulness, while also looking professional to the parents of the children. This logo is an example of how important it is to choose the right colors. I went through quite a few color combinations to come up with something that seemed familiar and yet unique.
One problem I came across was putting a light color on the “ZNE” letters. When a lighter color is applied to those letters they tend to be harder to read due to all the small missing parts on this font, Viper Nora. What would happen is that the missing parts would blend in with the background and the letters would be left with no definition. Attemping to remedy that with a small drop shadow or outline did not work either becuase they both ended up being far too busy.
The advantage of the letters being a dark color was that, combined with the small drop shadow on “Kid” and spiral, they act as an anchor for the logo. Once I was on to darker colors for the “ZNE” letters, I decided that black was far too dramatic looking, not to mention that it made the letters appear too flat.
I also decided to keep the color on the “kid” the same as the spiral in order to eliminate business and create focus. Again, the colors are what connect most with this logo. The font selection is always important too, but for the KidZONE logo the color helps it stand out.
