Web Design in CSS Gallery

19 Oct

I’m excited to see the new Auxiliary Services web design for UNC Charlotte included in the honorable mentions at theCSSawards.com. Very cool. Hopefully this is an inroad to getting other web design projects listed in other CSS galleries.

Funny Website: Things I Want to Punch

17 Oct

While my own cynicism gets the best of me sometimes everytime, it is good to know I am not alone. Check out a genuinely funny page – Things I Want to Punch from Nik Daum, punching everything from logo redesigns to time sucking devices.

Any others you want to add to the list?

District Court, Charlotte NC

8 Oct

Unsurprisingly, the District Court in Charlotte, NC is not easy to deal with. Trying to deal with a ticket for an expired license plate registration is ridiculously difficult. Maybe some of this info with help others.

Charlotte District Court Traffic Ticket Email Address

So why is the district court in Charlotte NC using a Yahoo email address to field questions from the public? That is an excellent question. For the same reason that it took me far too long to be able to find their phone number online. If anyone from the District Court in Charlotte is reading this, please drop me a line and I would be happy to redesign your website and make it easier to use. I also might throw in an email address that uses your domain, but only if someone helps em out with this registration ticket.

Top 3 Elements of Great Web Design

6 Oct

There are unlimited options when it comes to web design choices, but there are a few elements that every website design has, that makes a great website design.

  1. Easy Navigation: The navigation has to be easy to use, easy to understand, and not require any time to learn. There are cool things you can do with navigation, menus, etc., but someone does not have time to learn how to use your website’s navigation if it is not immediately obvious. There are many website navigation conventions now, so stick to those.
  2. Easy to Read Content: The content must be easy to read or else there is not point of putting it out there. Easy to read content is not just for a blog, it’s for everything on your website. You can still have a great website design without sacrificing readability. In fact, great web design does not mean that there has to be a ton of stuff on the page, it’s about balance, space and containment. This is a great reason to hire a professional web designer and not just rely on a free template.
  3. Make it Unique: It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, but somewhere, somehow, make your website design stand out among others. If everyone else had the same design as your site, what could you do to make it stand out?
