Top 3 college website designs

Designing for any large organization is always difficult since there are usually so many restrictions and a very large audience to cater to. The question is, how long will large organizations and business fall behind web design trends and just plain good design? I’d like to see some risks taken and the envelope pushed by the larger organizations of higher learning.
I have been working on a new site on a subdomain for UNC Charlotte and have been looking for inspiration and examples from other universities. Needless to say, I have been sorely disappointed and so I decided to try to find the best college website homepages. I will post soon with the best university subdomain sites I’ve seen, but for now, here are just main url sites. There are probably many more, but here are 3 of the best college website designs I’ve seen so far.
1. University of Tennessee: This site has long been a favorite. I love the use of the school colors, the whitespace and the overall simplicity. They have taken a lot of information and links and made it into a great looking website.
2. Dallas Theological Seminary: Once again, using school colors prominently and seperating information and links effectively. This site is a great example of current design trends for a corporation.
3. Boston University: This site is so minimal and yet very inviting and useful. I hope to see more simplicity from large organizations because having a complicated site does not mean its a better site, or more useful.
